This final School of Sewing series of classes is four weeks and covers the skills to learn how to quilt. We'll be making the popular Half Square Triangles (HST) style of quilt with multiple size and layout options. The Senior series covers making multiple HSTs from two squares of fabric, choosing colors and print scales for HST quilts, squaring up quilt blocks and quilt tops, piecing a quilt top, quilting and binding the quilt. Learn why HST quilts are so popular and the multiple quilt designs which can be created from this popular block.

Dates:

Oct. 12th, 19th, 26th, and Nov. 2nd, from 10am-1pm.

Supply List
  • Sewing machine with power cord, foot control and all accessories

  • Book - School of Sewing by Shea Henderson (available at Meissner's)

  • A notebook and a pen for note taking (or making notes in the margin of the book)

Class members should bring the items in the sewing kit they created during the Freshman Class Series:

  • Rotary cutter

  • Scissors

  • Pins

  • Cutting mat

  • Ruler(s)

  • Fabric marking pen

  • Pincushion

  • Seam ripper

  • Assorted notions

  • Thread- Mettler 50 wt. Cotton or Polyester

  • Bobbins

  • Needles- Schmetz Microtex 80/12 or 90/14

  • Hand sewing needles

  • Curved basting safety pins

  • Wonder clips to use when binding their quilt

  • 1⁄4” piecing foot

The Senior Project is a Half Square Triangle Quilt: Students will need to decide if they want to make a two-color or multiple-color quilt and which size of quilt they'd like to make: baby size 40"x48" or lap size 60"x72". All fabrics are 100% quilting cotton.

Baby Two Color:

  • 1.25 yards of two different fabrics

  • 3 yards of backing fabric

  • 1/3 yard of binding fabric

  • Crib size Winline back to basics cotton or bamboo batting (minimum size 44" x 52")

Baby Multi-color:

  • 1.25 yards background fabric

  • 8 different 1/4 yard cuts of fabric for quilt top

  • 3 yards of backing fabric

  • 1/3 yard of binding fabric

  • Crib size Winline back to basics cotton or bamboo batting (minimum size 44" x 52")

Lap Two Color:

  • 2.5 yards of two different fabrics
