Earth Day: Mona's Upcycled Denim Project | Sacramento

Bring your old jeans and join us in a Repurposing Celebration in honor of Earth Day!

We will have fun embellishing our denim and then putting pieces together to make one of three projects. Your choices will be a denim apron, a tote bag, or a fun poof or footstool. This project will not only keep denim from going to landfills but open creative ways to use your machine to make your project a one-of-a-kind creation.

This is a three-session class; you must be able to attend all three sessions in order to finish your amazing project!

Materials to Bring:

• Old jeans: three or more pairs. They do not need to be the same weight or color
• a variety of threads in different weights and colors; 50 to 12 weights in cotton, polyester, or rayon. At minimum, you will need one spool of Mettler Metrosene 50 weight/2 ply thread.
• an embroidery design you would like to use (if you have an embroidery machine)
• variety of sewing machine needles, topstitch, denim, and/or embroidery needles 80/12 to 100/16 (size of needle must accommodate your thread weights)
• iron on interfacing or stabilizer may be needed depending on your project choice (more details will come on the first day of class)
• scrap fabric or old clothing (ideally wovens) for embellishments and linings
• buttons, trims, and other decorative notions as desired
