Master Every Stitch With the #10 BERNINA Edgestitch Foot

Edgestitching

Perfect for all weights of fabric, this foot helps position the edge of the fabric close to the needle when stitching straight and curved edges.

Stitch-in-the Ditch

To stitch-in-the-ditch is to place stitching inside the ditch that occurs at the seam between two pieces of fabric. This causes the thread to be hidden in the seam of the fabric.

Understitching

Primarily used to keep facings from turning to the right side of a garment, understitching secures the inner edge of the facing to the seam allowances.

Attaching Ribbon

Attaching ribbon or braid is a simple operation with the help of the edgestitch foot #10.

Corded Edges

This edge finish is suitable for the edges of tablecloths and linens. Use a soft, flexible cord such as perle cotton, rayon, or gimp.

Edge-to-Edge Seams

This technique is useful for joining two finished straight stitch edges, such as lace to lace, lace to fabric, lace to entredeux, and ribbon to ribbon.

Single Needle Tucks

Create folded tucks on fine to medium-weight, even weave fabrics, such as those used for blouses and heirloom garments.

Cross Tucks

A decorative sewing technique that creates a textured, grid-like pattern by sewing intersecting vertical and horizontal tucks on fabric

Twisted Tucks

Decorative twisted tucks are formed by folding and stitching rows of tucks in alternating directions. Twisted tucks may be used to embellish garment sections such as shirt and jacket yokes, and insets.

Machine Whip Stitch

This edge finish is suitable for fine to medium-weight fabrics.

Narrow Hem

An easy way to finish edges on fine fabrics such as those used for scarves, handkerchiefs, and flowing skirts.

Narrow Curved Hem

This help is turned only once, making it easier for use on curved edges.

Lace Edging

Lace makes an attractive finish for linens, garments, and other single-layer projects.

Lace Insertion

A decorative sewing technique, often associated with heirloom sewing, where lace trim is inserted between two fabric panels or into a cut in the fabric to create a "peekaboo" or embellished effect.

Lace Trimmed Tucks

A decorative sewing technique where narrow, stitched folds of fabric (tucks) are embellished with lace, creating an intricate, elegant, and textured design.

Entredeux

Extredeux means between two - it is used between two components of heirloom stitching - between lace and fabrics, or to strengthen the seam between two fabric sections.

Tricot Bound Edges

Sheer tricot binding covers the raw seam allowances without adding bulk or stiffness to the fabric edge.

Hong Kong Seam Finish

A wonderful way to finish the seams and hem of unlined jackets, this technique covers the raw edges with a contrasting fabric.
